Planning a Micro-Wedding

If you don’t read anything else, here’s the key:

Plan a Wedding Weekend, don’t solely focus on the wedding and reception.

That’s it. That’s the biggest, most important thing couple’s forget when they’re wedding planning and it’s especially important for Microweddings. Here’s why.

You’re considering a micro-wedding because you want to spend time with your friends and family. You want to relax and enjoy your weekend with the people you love the very most. So, how do you do that in just one day?

You don’t. So, here’s are the keys to planning an elegant, intimate micro wedding that brings your family closer and is a true celebration of your marriage:

Plan more events around the ceremony and reception. Specifically, don’t forget to plan a welcome meal/dinner, events the day before (yoga? lake time?), rehearsal dinner, good bye brunch, and any other events that are meaningful to you and your crew. I think it’s fun to do ‘his’ and ‘hers’ events the morning of your wedding too! Yes, you’ll probably miss out on some additional photography time by choosing to spend this time with your family, but why not book an additional separate day for photos? (see a related recommendation here)

Consider their Accommodations. What guests remember most about wedding is how much the couple considered them. Since you’ve already paired down the guest list to those most important to you, you’ll want to make sure your guests feel like you’ve thought this through for them. And it all starts with where they’re staying. Ideally, you’d find comfortable accommodations close to the festivities so everyone can feel as included as possible. A venue like the Somers Mansion includes both stunning spaces for your wedding ceremony and reception, but also guest suites for your guests. If your guest count exceeds our overnight space, look into intimate AirBnB or reach out for recommendations to maintain the intimate feel of your wedding weekend.

Think through the guest’s experience. Consider what your guests will be doing while you take bridal portraits. Are there tours or activities you could point them to? Remember that this might be their chance to experience Montana- what do you want them to see? Consider booking a Glacier tour, renting a boat/jetskis to enjoy Flathead Lake, or suggest a stunning local hike.

The reality is that guests love coming to Montana- both to celebrate you and on a mini-vacation. They will remember and cherish your thoughtfulness in planning.
